Description

EIRENE is an R&D project under the INNTERCONECTA STEP 2025 programme. Its goal is to improve the energy renovation of buildings by combining advanced digital technologies with sustainable energy solutions. The project aims to support smart, efficient, and carbon-neutral renovation of existing buildings while also involving people and considering their needs and feedback.

The project brings together technologies such as autonomous robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), digital twins, IoT platforms, Edge-Cloud computing, and advanced energy simulation to improve the digitalization, monitoring, and energy management of buildings.

EIRENE supports the European Union’s strategic priorities in two main areas:

  • Digital technologies: robotics, AI, digital twins, semantic interoperability, and Edge Computing.
  • Clean and efficient technologies: energy efficiency, distributed solar energy, smart energy storage, and positive energy districts.

The project addresses several key challenges:

  1. Advanced digitalization of complex buildings using autonomous robots that can collect 3D and contextual data in real time.
  2. Automation of the Scan-to-BIM process, transforming point clouds into BIM models and interoperable digital twins through AI-based algorithms.
  3. Smart energy monitoring, using IoT networks and Edge-Cloud architectures to control and optimize energy consumption in real time.
  4. Integration of renewable energy sources, especially distributed photovoltaic systems and coordinated self-consumption models in energy districts.
  5. Improving user comfort and well-being, by combining environmental data with occupants’ feedback to dynamically adapt building conditions.

In summary, EIRENE proposes an integrated platform that combines advanced digitalization, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and citizen participation to accelerate the transition toward more efficient, sustainable, and people-centred buildings.

CEMOSA's Role

CEMOSA is the project coordinator, responsible for ensuring the planning, management, and successful implementation of all project activities.

In addition, CEMOSA is developing an autonomous digital twin platform, supported by the automated conversion of solid 3D models and enriched point clouds into BIM models. This platform will integrate advanced algorithms for the optimization of photovoltaic systems, as well as energy efficiency, flexibility, and resilience. It will also include a digital model for evaluating Positive Energy District (PED) configurations and a dynamic personalized comfort model to improve building performance and occupant well-being.
